September Opening Appeal: help us get Manning's ready
Manning's School is due to open for the new academic year in September, but the reconstruction works following Hurricane Melissa are not yet complete. The Association is launching an urgent appeal so that students return to classrooms that are ready for them.
The appeal has two purposes. The first is the physical readiness of the school — the classrooms, furniture, equipment and facilities that must be in place on day one. The second is our students themselves: many families in Westmoreland lost homes and livelihoods in the storm, and children who would otherwise go without books, uniforms, lunch or transport need help to take their places.
Hurricane Melissa was the first Category 5 hurricane to make a direct hit on Jamaica in recorded history. Westmoreland was among the worst affected parishes, with damage across the west running into billions of US dollars and tens of thousands of buildings losing their roofs. Our school community is still living with that.
Alumni at home and abroad can give through the Make a gift page, choosing either the September Opening Appeal or the Students in Need Fund. Gifts of any size help, and every donation is receipted.
